About Riya
Riya Kumar is a New York-based multi-instrumentalist composer pursuing a B.M. in Film/TV/Videogame Scoring at NYU [2023-27]. Her short orchestral composition was purchased in 2021 by Al Jazeera, one of the largest international news networks, for their silver jubilee anniversary celebrations. Her debut orchestral album, "Natural Explorations", was published in 2022 with the award-winning MPATH Music, distributed by APM (Sony/Universal), and recently placed on PBS, NPR, Amazon, and Apple channels. She is the youngest composer ever to write for MPATH Music - the first and only music publisher in the world to achieve gender parity. Riya is also the lead composer on a 30-member LA-based animated feature film project, "The Frozen Sky".
Riya recently composed and produced the scores for two short films (run time 30 minutes) which are currently touring festivals such as Tribeca, SXSW, and Sundance. Her music is melodic & evocative - infused with Western orchestral and modern synth elements. Riya is also known for writing Western/Indian and world-fusion music.
